Sixth Grade Humanities Class Expectations

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! It is my pleasure to have you in my class as you make your way into middle school. We are going to have a great year together!

Behavior: All students will demonstrate RESPECT, EFFORT, and CREATIVITY every day in class. Students will come to class prepared to learn and will work to create a positive environment in class where all ideas are heard and appreciated. Students will keep their cell phones, ipods, and food in their backpacks at all times.

In-Class Work: Students will complete their in-class work in a neat and timely manner, either individually or in groups, as assigned.

Homework: Homework will be turned in on time and will be neat and totally completed to receive full credit. Each student will complete their work individually, as copying and cheating is not tolerated in my class or at MBMS. Take pride in your work!

Edline and Class Blog: In addition to Edline, I will be keeping a class blog to update you with class work, homework, and other reminders. Make it a habit to check it daily with your parents, especially when you are absent! The address is http://www.msbosworth.wordpress.com.

Reading: We will be reading The Cay, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, Tuck Everlasting, and The Bridge to Terabithia in class. Outside of class, reading for pleasure is the best way to improve your vocabulary, writing, and thinking skills. As such, students will keep a reading log and will always have an SSR book in their backpacks. I encourage you to read books, magazines, comics, the newspaper – anything that interests you!

Absences: When you are absent, please check the blog for class information and homework. Students have one day to make up work for every day they are absent, unless arrangements have been made. Make-up work will receive full credit when turned in on time.

Late Work: In-class work and homework turned in late will receive half credit. Writing assignments and long-term projects will be marked down 10% for every day it is late beyond the due date. Please see me if other arrangements need to be made.

Extra Help: Let me help you! If you have a question, are unclear about something discussed in class, or need any extra help, I am always here to help you and am happy to do it! I am here before school, at nutrition and lunch, and after school to help you whenever you need.

Grades: All grades will be determined by points earned from class work, homework, writing assignments, projects, tests, and class participation. Grades are broken down as follows: 100-90% = A, 89-80% = B, 79-70% = C, 69-60% = D, anything below 59% = F.

Student Supplies and Planner: All students will come to class prepared with paper and pencils every day. Students will keep a 3 ring binder with sections for each class to help stay organized, as well as keep their planner updated with homework and reminders. Each student will also need a composition book to serve as his or her Writer’s Notebook.

Let’s work together to make this year a great one!
